EXAMPLE 1

Description of Task: Tutoring a young engineer that had a strong interest in hardware design with no Engineering degree but a strong physics background.

Description of Task solution: Performed a systems and full hardware design along with this engineer so he could take over when I stopped the tutoring process.

We tracked the design together, and he participated in initial design updates and the design reviews. Then he took over the designs, and I performed design reviews of his work and participated in formal design reviews.

During the design process, the engineer took a great interest in learning about hardware design via online study.

Results of Engagement: This young engineer took over full responsibility for the hardware design after about a one year process.

EXAMPLE 2

Description of Task: A design engineer familiar with IC design, but not Board Level Systems and Analog Design needed to take on the challenge of testing the system at the production level.

Description of Task Solution: I coached the engineer on the process of testing complex systems with analog based hardware interfacing with embedded controller hardware. We wrote test interface software together, using a test interface device which I designed. The engineer then performed the initial run of testing on production systems.

Results of Engagement: This engineer learned how to do production testing of a complex piece of hardware and took over the test process, and then trained to the perform production test by low level test operators to do the testing at volume with coaching from me. This engineer took on full responsibilities for testing after about a six month process. The process took about one year from start to finish.

EXAMPLE 3

Description of Task: A newly graduated mechanical engineer was hired by a startup company. This person was sharp and eager to learn about the hardware systems design process. He was to take over the Mechanical and Electronics design as the company grew.

Description of Task Solution: I worked with the engineer to do the formal design while I tutored him on the Hardware Systems and Analog Interface Design. He participated in all informal and formal hardware design reviews and oversaw hardware as the demonstration design moved forward.

Results of Engagement: The engineer took charge of the design as it neared completion. Tutoring kept going at a lower and lower level until the takeover was completed. The process took about one year total.
